Brown Water Advisory
After heavy rain, runoff floods river mouths and bays with bacteria, leptospirosis, and debris. Wait 24–72 hours before entering the ocean near river mouths after a brown-water posting.
Flash Flood Advisory
Hanakāpīʻai Stream and other Kauai streams flood with no visible warning — rain miles inland can send a wall of water down a sunny canyon in minutes. A WATCH means be prepared; a WARNING means GO NOW.
Road Closures
Landslides, flooding, and maintenance can close highways and neighborhood roads with little notice. Verify your route before heading out, especially after heavy rain.
Power Outages
Tropical storms, high winds, and downed lines can knock out power across the island. Check the KIUC outage map for current outages and estimated restoration times.
